From Book 1: Welcome to the Miss Mayhem series, where four adventurous young ladies match wits and capture the hearts of their neighbors in the seaside town. MISS MAYHEM · From the Rebel Belle series, Vol. 2. by Rachel Hawkins ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 7, In this sequel to Rebel Belle (), the new romance. About Miss Mayhem. New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins is sassier than ever in this page-turning follow up to Rebel Belle.

Please try again later. Verified Purchase. This is why I tried my hardest to wait to binge the Rebel Belle trilogy, and upon learning that Rachel was coming to St.

Louis later this month, I failed miserably in that endeavor. Miss Mayhem was yet another delightful read by the fabulously talented Rachel Hawkins! The Ephors still want David and when one, Alexander, approaches the trio and tells Harper about the tasks ahead of her, there really is no choice for her but to endure them.

On the plus side, Bee was released from her capture and is back with Harper and everyone else. Bee is still a Paladin though, since David never took her powers back as well. I will say we have a far more amount of drama in this one. Ryan is having his own set of relationship issues that seem to span quite a bit of pages.

And then, naturally, we start to see a divide between Harper and David. Where trilogies are concerned, it always seems like there are major issues in book 2 to be overcome in the final book for that HEA ending.

As I said, the pacing slows down a bit in this one. The relationship issues soon become the focus point, but not in a juvenile sense. But I was hoping for more happy times with them. I am itching to know what happens to everyone!

The series so far has been pretty fun! Though, now they have one at the end, but still. Giles always gave Buffy and her friends direction, purpose, he was a token of knowledge and all that, a mentor and friend! Harper and her friends are lacking that, but they still manage to get by.

One person found this helpful. This review originally appeared on herestohappyendings. It was one of those books that were on my list for ages, and I just never managed to get around to reading. After I read it, though, I couldn't understand what had taken me so long - I mean, it was absolutely fantastic, and I couldn't get enough of it.

I flew through that book so quickly I probably could have read it three times in the normal amount of time it takes me to read a book. If you want to read my review for Rebel Belle, go and check it out.

Otherwise you might run into some spoilers in this review that you might not have seen coming if you didn't read the first book I hate giving things away in books, so I try to keep things as spoiler free as possible, but you know, I warned you!

After the whole incident at Cotillion, the three of them are starting to figure out how to manage to keep things going smoothly without too much of an issue aside from the slight awkwardness between now exes Harper and Ryan.

However, that starts to change one night when Harper goes into a party to rescue Harper's friends from a bad situation that David had a vision about - and from there, things go downhill. Bee is still missing, but soon to be recovered when Harper, David, and Ryan come across a strange house with an even stranger man inside - an Ephor, who wants to make David's visions even stronger than they already are.

Not to mention the fact that even though Harper is getting used to her Paladin powers and now this guy wants to throw in that she has to go through trials to officiate her status as David's Paladin.

Not too thrilled with this, she is even less thrilled when the Ephor brings out Bee, who was kidnapped, and is threatened with either completing the trials successfully or dying Feeling a bit out of her element and admittedly pretty terrified at the daunting surprise tasks ahead of her , Harper confides to her aunt Jewel - the only person she has told anything to aside from Ryan and Bee.

That my current boyfriend is an Oracle, and my ex-boyfriend is more or less a wizard. And you want to do a little shopping? Making a decision to compete in the Miss Pine Grove pageant with Bee in order to try and stop the horrible vision that David had from coming true and maybe catch Blythe , Harper must face the other trials as well as compete in the pageant - and if she loses, she can no longer be David's Paladin.

Miss Mayhem was really good, but it didn't really have the awesomeness that Rebel Belle had. Yes, it was great, and Harper was the same kick-ass, well-mannered, profanity filtering heroine that we know and love, but it just didn't have the amount of oomph that the first book had.

Still, if you liked Rebel Belle, the you absolutely must read this one, too, because it picks right up where the first book left off. I got really sad at the end of the book, and while I'm not going to ruin my spoiler free review here, I was disappointed that the author chose to end the book this way. It was kind of heartbreaking, and I really wished it could have gone differently, but at the same time, it leaves a lot of room for the third and final book, Lady Renegades, to complete the story.

I really do hope it has more of an uplifting ending than this installment, though. I'm really glad that I waited to read this book right after Rebel Belle and right before Lady Renegades, otherwise I probably would have forgotten all the stuff that happened in this one. While this is a bit lackluster compared to the first book in the series, the characters are all back and it's nice to spend more time with all of them.

There's still tons of action going on, so no need to worry about missing out on that. Rebel Belle was one of my favorites of last year, so it's no guess that I was desperately waiting for this one. I just knew it would be filled with adventure and mayhem and the wit and sarcasm that only Hawkins can bring. Although it wasn't as good as the first, there was something that kept me tied to this book. Miss Mayhem starts exactly where Rebel Belle left off.

But unfortunately, her Paladin powers don't go away just because she wanted them to. Instead she gets word that the Ephors now want to train David Sadly, I wasn't as big a fan of this one as I was of the first one. In the first one there was so much action and adventure going on and I just couldn't put it down. In this one, there was still some of the action and things going on, but it just didn't hang on to me like the first one did. I hadn't wanted to put Rebel Belle down, but with this one, I just read it like "I'll finish it when I get to it.

In other words, to me it was the dreaded sophomore novel. I also wasn't a huge fan of that ending. What in the world made you think that was ok, Hawkins? Does that mean there will be three books?

Because that was just a weird thing to do. I can't tell whether or not there will be more or if it's just over now. And that bugs me.

I don't know if I should stop looking forward to something else or to just give up. Although this wasn't my favorite, it was certainly a quick, fun read. If there's not a third book, I'm sure I will definitely read this series again and again.

Maybe Rebel Belle had gotten my expectations up? The story was great, I loved it. But it could have been condensed down to a shorter story that really shines. Maybe this trilogy should really be one book after some heavy editing? On August 23, , during the series' official announcement, a promotional teaser featuring Kermit the Frog and a Muppet named Joe the Legal Weasel was shown at the D23 Expo.

The critical consensus reads, "Though Muppets Now ' s formulaic sketches fail to showcase The Muppets' chaotic charms, it's entertaining enough to suggest that with looser reins - and a lot more music - it could become the best reboot in years. Common Sense Media rated the show 4 out of 5 stars, stating: "Parents need to know that Muppets Now is a family-friendly show about the Muppets trying to put together their own streaming series.

Made up of different segments -- like Lifesty sorry, Life style with Miss Piggy, a cooking show with the Swedish Chef, and many more -- the show features the Muppet crew getting up to their usual hijinks, with a modern twist. Piggy wants to be an influencer, Scooter is overwhelmed with video chats and Slack-type messages, and celebs of the day like RuPaul join in the fun.

Like much Muppet fare, it's slightly edgy, with some very mild innuendo a Muppet fan tells RuPaul he "just wants to touch him" and cartoonish violence in the form of slapstick and pratfalls. The series is fast-paced, light, and fun; families who are Muppet fans will be pleased to see this return to form from their favorite gang of now media-savvy puppet friends". Read on with caution! Half of what made her so likeable in the first book was that she was all about manners and propriety while also killing someone with a shoe.

One of the big showdowns in this book is during a pageant, and although I am a card-carrying feminist who disapproves of the idea that parading women around in swimsuits can be some measure of their worth…I also like big sparkly tiaras, tacky formalwear, and the bitchy backbiting that pageant stories bring.

Also, Toddlers and Tiaras. Miss Mayhem is clearly here to set things up for the third book, Lady Renegades , and that is reflected in the pacing. It was getting late, and there were a million places I would rather have been, but I had a job to do tonight. Still, I could mix a little business with pleasure. Leaning over the seat, I tipped my face up so he could kiss me. David pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

Sometimes I wonder. My hand fell away from the door as I thought about that, but before I could answer, a loud bang from the front of the car had us both jumping. Two dark-haired guys in polo shirts and pastel shorts chortled as they walked past, their faces washed out in the glow of the headlights.

At my side, David heaved a huge sigh. I settled back into my seat, fussing with my hair. He was going to argue again, I could tell. That V between his eyes was getting deeper and his knee was jiggling, so I hurried. Not even David Stark could argue with that, so he gave a terse nod and leaned back in his seat. But please make it fast. This place is already starting to have a bad influence on me. I feel the need to buy polo shirts and shorts.

Maybe some Man Sandals. Grinning, I unbuckled my seat belt. David made a face at me and tugged at the hem of his sweater. Across the street, a group of boys came stumbling out the front door of the redbrick Sigma Kappa Nu house, one of them breaking away to puke in the azalea bushes. Pushing my shoulders back, I did the best I could to saunter across the lawn, projecting confidence while also trying not to draw too much attention to myself. Should things get. The door to the frat house was hanging open as I approached, thanks to the puking guy and his friends, so I was able to slip inside unnoticed.

If the bass had been pounding from outside, it was like a physical presence in the house, rattling my teeth and starting an immediate headache behind my eyes. These were, on the whole, big dumb party boys, and I was not into that. At all. It turned out I was a Paladin, a kind of superpowered warrior, charged with protecting the Oracle, aka David Stark, aka my new boyfriend. Being an Oracle meant that David could see the future, which obviously made him a pretty valuable commodity to a lot of people.

And not good people, either. The Ephors were a group of men who had owned Oracles for years, using their visions to get ahead in the world. To predict the outcome of everything from wars to financial investments. Oh, and did I mention my ex, Ryan, was our new Mage? So, yeah, complicated, but we were all trying to make the best of things. Ryan and I had only helped him have two of those big types of visions. The first one, in the newspaper room at our school, had started a fire in a trash can, and short-circuited every computer in there.

The second had resulted in David staying home for nearly a week, his eyes glowing brightly, his head aching. After that, I decided we should start small. And now Abigail. Her future would take a hard left turn tonight when she met some douche-y frat brother named Spencer. Saving people from future earthquakes or volcanoes seemed daunting—not to mention almost impossible to get people to believe—but keeping a friend from falling for the wrong guy?

Oh, that I could handle. Provided I could find Abigail, of course. A set of French doors opened into a big backyard, and I headed in that direction, hoping to see the twins. As I kicked a crumpled Bud Light can out of my path, my phone vibrated. Pulling it out of my purse, I saw it was a text from David. I smiled, unsure of what was funnier: the picture itself or the idea of David Stark taking a selfie.

A giant keg had become a sort of fountain in the middle of the yard. Two boys were holding another guy up by his legs so he could attempt the dreaded keg stand, and I sighed, wondering what the appeal of these dudes even was. That involved stepping over more beer cans, and at least two unconscious dudes, and I frowned. The twins both raised their eyebrows at me, surprised. What are you doing here? They were both wearing red dresses, so I was glad the hair made it easy to tell them apart. I gave them my sternest look, propping my hands on my hips.

Now come on. This is a secret I learned from cheerleading and SGA. They both studied me for a minute. I made my way toward the French doors, pleased. A figure suddenly reared up in front of me. The guy who blocked the doorway looked a lot like my ex-boyfriend, Ryan. Tall, nicely built, reddish hair that was just a little too long. Amanda kind of shook her head, too. But all I had were my powers of persuasion, which I thought were still pretty great. But Frat-enstein over here was still looming in the doorway, arms braced on either side of the frame, a red plastic cup in one hand.

He pressed a meaty paw over the Greek letters on his shirt, and his blurry eyes tried to focus on me. His cheeks were red, and his nose was kind of shiny. Honestly, what did Abi even see in a guy like this? I snorted. Alpha Epsilon is the best frat on campus. Now get out of our way. He was blinking down at me, like my words were taking a while to penetrate the haze of beer and dumb that clearly clouded his mind.

Amanda nodded this time, thank God, but Abi was still chewing her lower lip and looking at the guy. Now the guy was looking back at her, blinking, and, ugh, this was going to be harder than I thought.

Biting back a sigh, I made myself smile at Abi. Now kindly get out of our way. And then, thankfully, he gave me the chance. His hand came down on my shoulder, hard enough that I actually winced. He let out a whoosh of air that smelled like stale beer and sour apple Jolly Ranchers, making me wrinkle my nose even as I hooked my foot around his ankle and sent him crashing to the ground. Still clutching his hand, I pressed my shoe to his chest and slid my fingers down to circle his wrist.

I only had to pull the littlest bit before he whimpered. I just wanted to scare him a little bit. It occurred to me that once upon a time I could do that with a mere icy smile or an eye roll. These days, things were a lot more. And you do not get in her way. Is that clear? I tossed his hand down, dusting my palms on the back of my skirt. Lifting my head to the twins, I saw them watching me with mouths agape.

Luckily, most of the party was still outside, so only a couple of guys—also dressed in the maroon and blue of Sigma Kappa Nu—saw me with Spencer, and they were so drunk that they barely noticed me. I glanced back at the twins. Abi opened the back door, delicately kicking a stack of books off the backseat and onto the floor.

David winced as the books fell, and the corners of his mouth jerked down as he cut his eyes at me. However, when Amanda tossed his ratty messenger bag out of the way, he twisted to look into the backseat.

But it was for his own good. David fell to his knees, hands pressed to his head. Golden light poured out of his eyes, so bright it hurt to look at, and from behind me, I heard one of the twins make a sound somewhere between a gasp and a breathy scream.

There was a part of my mind already on the phone with Ryan, asking him to work his mind-wipe mojo on the twins ASAP, but for right now, David was the only thing that mattered. His skin was clammy, but he grabbed my hand tight, fingers curling around my palm. Right now, light in his eyes, body vibrating, he looked a lot less like my boyfriend, and a lot more like a powerful supernatural creature. We need to go to them. My best friend had gone missing the night of Cotillion, kidnapped by Blythe and taken who knew where.

Glancing over my shoulder, I saw that the twins were still frowning at us. Well, Amanda was. Abi was just staring at David, shocked. I never wore a watch, but David always did, so I checked it now. I could feel the power draining out of him, and his breathing was starting to slow, the light in his eyes going dim. Sucking in a deep breath through my nose, I forced myself to think. First things first, I needed to get the twins home and dealt with. I could worry about my parents and where David was meant to be taking me once Abi and Amanda were handled.

The twins stood there, arms folded over their chests. It had been a long night already, and I had a feeling it was about to get a lot longer. I shook my head, shooing the twins back toward the car. What I did plan on doing was calling Ryan. We have to go now. He gave a weak nod and waved his hand, still slumped against the door panel. Maybe this will make me sound like a terrible person, but seeing him like that, much as it worried me, also made me feel kind of.

Vindicated, even. This was what Ryan and I were protecting him from, this kind of pain. I started to open the car door, but before I could, Ryan was suddenly there in the open window, folding his arms on the door, chin resting on his forearms. I could practically feel the twins swoon in the backseat. Ryan used to make me swoon once, too, but now I frowned and waved him back from the door so I could get out of the car. By now, the twins were getting out of the backseat, muttering to each other.

Ryan caught my elbow before I could rush back to David. Under the street lamps, he was looking a little bit better, but not much. There were still shadows underneath his eyes, and he was moving gingerly, like something inside him was broken. But his jaw was set when he looked at me, fingers on the door handle. I put my hands on my hips, shifting my weight to one foot. Now was not exactly the time to be arguing over who had control of the car, but I was not about to let a guy who looked like his brain might actually start leaking out of his ears get behind the wheel.

Behind me, I could hear the low murmur of voices as Ryan talked to the twins, but I ignored that, focusing on David with my arms crossed tightly. Azalea bushes lined the brick walls, and every yard had either dogwood trees or magnolias planted smack-dab in the middle of the grass. Like a GPS. I thought about arguing with him again, but David was right; I did tend to put myself in charge of all of these things, but how could I not? Dropping my head, I pinched the bridge of my nose between my fingers.

The twins were walking toward their house, and Ryan gave me a thumbs-up, so I figured that was settled, thank goodness. From the backseat, Ryan snorted, and when I glanced over my shoulder, he was sitting back, his arms folded, legs spread wide.

Maybe we were coworkers. I looked back over at David. His hands were clenched tightly around the steering wheel, eyes on the dark road in front of us. Should I go ahead and cover the whole state?

Surprised, I twisted in my seat, the seat belt digging into my hip. I could hear Ryan shift in the backseat, and willed him not to say anything.

The thing about the earthquake in Peru, and then the one about that senator lady Harper likes becoming president. But then. For months now. Not earth-shattering stuff. He did look over then, eyebrows drawing close together over the rims of his glasses. There was something weird in his voice. Stuff that might actually help. At least more people than a handful of your friends. And it was a big one. He nodded and reached over to squeeze my hand. It was probably just the reflection of streetlights, but it looked like his eyes were glowing again, and I swallowed hard.

Grenades, maybe. He had his elbows propped on his spread knees, his hazel eyes scanning the road in front of us, the fields of tall grass on either side. My grandmother had a painting of it over her mantel.

Apparently it was kinda famous or something, but it burned down back in the seventies. All that was left was a chimney. The house in front of us looked a lot like Magnolia House back in town, but while that was just a reproduction of a fancy antebellum home, this seemed to be the real thing. White columns rose from the front porch to a wraparound balcony above, and tall windows, bracketed by dark shutters, stood on either side of the massive front door.

Lights glowed in those windows, throwing out long rectangles of gold on the neatly manicured lawn. I did. David was still staring at the house, his wrists draped over the steering wheel.

As the three of us got out of the car, it was all I could do not to shiver. The house might not have looked magical, but it sure as heck felt like it. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and my teeth ache. Reaching over, I threaded my fingers with his, squeezing. Are we just marching in, or.

Lady Renegades: a Rebel Belle Novel. The Shadows Between Us. Tricia Levenseller. She continues in her role as a Paladin, sworn protector of the Oracle, her boyfriend, David Stark.

In this installment, Harper and her friends are positioned for an epic battle with the Ephors, legendary killers of the Oracle. The Ephors change the rules of the game this time: David will be trained to help them, and Harper will have to complete trials known as the Peirasmos if she wants to continue as his protector. As in the previous volume, each of these three trials will unfold in ways that threaten all that Harper holds dear.

Hawkins's sophomore effort in this series sees the return of the main characters introduced in the first book, though their relationships are increasingly complex, which overshadows what should be the main conflict: the battle between the Ephors and the Paladin. Still, fans won't mind. Born in Virginia and raised in Alabama, Rachel taught high school English for three years before becoming a full-time writer.

And it worked. Then why are you following me? I thought. He drove me here, obvs. A vision. Or looking so scary. Fingers closing around the handle, David shoved the door open, spilling out into the street. Which, I had to remind myself, was exactly what he was. I held his hand tighter. But then Ryan walked over to us and grinned. Sort of.

David brought the car to a shuddering halt. So I thought I could be forgiven for doubting David. Read more. Don't have a Kindle?

It premiered on July 31, Muppets Now is a series consisting of multiple different segments bridged together by a framing device featuring Scooter. The segments include a game show, a cooking show, and a talk show. The series was marketed as unscripted, but several writers are credited. On May 21, , it was reported that Disney was developing a minute short series based on The Muppets.

Production on Muppets Now began on June 8, , [1] and lasted approximately six days. Scooter uploads the videos for the Muppets' newest show on a tight deadline while receiving messages from his co-workers. Scooter has to deal with Fozzie bombarding him with pitches while trying to get the segments up online in time. Scooter is forced by Joe to host a test-screening for the segments, and the test audience turns out to be Statler and Waldorf.

Scooter gets Animal's help to keep him awake to upload the videos after he pulled an all-nighter. Scooter attempts to overcome the several technical difficulties that come with a system update while uploading the sketches. Robin makes Scooter co-moderator on the Muppets social media accounts, forcing him to deal with multiple notifications while uploading the videos.
